Village Institution Building:
in all project villages, Village Resource Management
Committees (VRMCs) are formed and trained for common property resource
management and sustainable development of the village.
Chetna Kendra: this is a one room structure built by the project in all villages where at least 10 ha. of common land has been afforested. This place is used for all kinds of training and meetings. In some of the villages it is also used for other purposes like school, dispensary etc. Income Generating Activity: to improve economic conditions and build self confidence in women the project has started many income generating activities through the formation of Self-Help groups. Improved Crematoria: this is a concrete structure with shed and iron base for burning the body, which saves 50% of fuel wood. Improved Chulha: this is made of cement with a smoke pipe attached to it that takes the smoke out of the house and turns fuel efficiency. Water Harvesting Dam: in the Shivaliks project has built 17 earthen dams which serves the village for irrigation round the year. Studies show that crop production has gone up by 2.7 times in the second year of irrigation.

Village Woodlots:
this is done on common land to improve village environment
and land fertility. Study done in the project villages show that benefit
in the form of grass and other NTFP has already started coming out from
the plantation area. Tree Groves: under this model grove of 19 tall and shady trees are planted in circle. Since last three years project has also started planting along the road. Multi Species Farm Forestry: under this model farmers are given the seedlings of their choice for free to plant in the agriculture fields. Also bonus is given to the farmers for the survival of plants. Sand Dune Fixation: this model is for the south western part of the state where there is problem of moving sand. Poplar Plantation: under this model farmers are given poplar seedlings for free to plant in their agriculture fields. Kitchen Garden: fruit trees and vegetable seeds are distributed to households for their homestead. Improved Nursery: the project has built 10 mist chambers at Seonthi (Kurukshetra) for raising clonal eucalyptus seedlings. The seedling survival rate at this establishment is highest in the country (85%). |
