The Haryana Community Forestry Project is adopting an holistic approach to encourage the development of non-farm activities in project villages by availing the services existing through various institutions and programmes. Stress is given in village Micro Plan to appropriate natural resource based income generating activities for the landless and resource poor farmers

The project is constituting Self Help Groups (SHG) in the selected villages with the assistance of NGOs and their grassroot consultants. Skills training pertaining to IGAs prepared by SHGs, as well as general enterpreneurship management training workshops, have been conducted.

There are at present 180 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in 101 villages, all of which are involved in IGAs.

Literacy training for illiterate SHG members, using computers as training aids, has been conducted for 1250 women in 120 SHGs. Five NGOs and a short-term consultant have been assisting the project in development of SHGs.
