Improved Chulhas
Improved chulhas have proved to reduce lung obstruction diseases from 54% to 35% and eye problems from 67% to 41% of women affected within 6 months. |
Energy Efficient Technology Improved Chulhas The project aim's to reduce the consumption of fuelwood and dung cakes in target villages by introducing improved domestic cooks stoves. These stoves can reduce fuel consumption by upto 50%. The improved chulhas are made of cement for durability and cost around Rs. 400/- per unit. Of this the recipient pays 20% and the rest is subsidized by the project.
The Project has installed 8400 chulhas in 153 villages. Follow-up surveys show that 76% of the chulhas are being used years after installation, in almost all cases more than twice a day. An improved chulha saves around 1 tonne of fuel per year if used daily, reducing fuel consumption by 50 %
