  Benefits from common land plantations

Benefits from common land plantations during the year amount to Rs. 14.7 million, of which 81% from grass collection. Other benefits include fuelwood from pruning, fruits and non-timber forest produce. Cumulative common land plantation benefits over the last six years exceed Rs. 34.2 million, of which Rs. 30.2 million (88%) from grass collection.


 

Farm Forestry
Farmers are now reaping considerable economic benefits from farm land plantations through felling and sale of fast-growing trees. 4-6 year old poplars and eucalyptus have been sold for Rs. 32,820,000 by farmers in 58 villages during the year. Sales proceeds from poplar and eucalyptus during years 7-8 combined stand at a level of Rs. 45.6 million.
